National treasure and the queen of kitchens, the loveable Mary Berry is selling her kitchen – up for sale for £800,000, complete with a beautiful house wrapped around it. The holiday home in Salcombe is currently on the market and there is bound to be interest from MB fans, who would love to cook in the same kitchen where Mary Berry has cooked for friends and family since 2006.
Chris Evans talked about the house sale on his BBC Radio 2 breakfast show and felt that the kitchen alone would be worth £800,000 because of the Mary Berry effect.

So it is interesting to see what kind of kitchen where Mary may have been creating some of her most popular dishes for her new ‘Absolute Favourites’ TV programme – to see that it is very traditional, Shaker style with a dark blue two oven AGA, cream units with a dresser and warm toned tiling on the floor – and to imagine Mary busy cooking for her family.
Apparently Mary has had a long association with Salcombe as her two children, who are now the current owners of the property, love spending time there and being on or close to the water. The family is currently searching for a home a bit closer to the water with moorings.
There is something so magical about the coast that really draws people to it and Beau-Port’s designers Mark and Jacob were thrilled when they got the opportunity to work with a coastal client, recently completing a large kitchen for a boutique Bed & Breakfast at Lee-on-the-Solent. Both designers enjoyed their trips down to Lee-on-the-Solent to ensure that the contemporary style kitchen Beau-Port designed and installed, was perfect for the client.
It is a very different style of kitchen to Mary Berry’s more traditional kitchen, with the clean lines of the Rotpunkt German furniture the new kitchen has to fulfil many needs, as both an office and a hidden utility area, that have both been seamlessly incorporated into the kitchen.
“The brief may have been for a working kitchen for the B & B business but we also wanted it to be a warm, welcoming and efficient place for the owner who would be spending a lot of time in the space preparing large numbers of breakfasts for his many guests, as well as placing orders, doing paperwork and all the other B & B tasks like the laundry,” commented Mark Johnson, Beau-Port’s head designer. “The design presented an interesting challenge, and yes it was good to get down to the coast and we look forward to working with more clients along the south coast.”
